Important Reminders for Your Visa Application

Please refer to the "Visa Categories and Requirements of Supporting Documents" for the general information on visa categories, applicant qualifications and documents requirements. Meanwhile, please be advised of the following rules if you intend to apply with this office for visas to visit mainland China:

1. Applicants should present original passports under good condition and with at least two blank visa pages.

2. Applicants should be physically in HK. Applicants may submit applications in person or entrust other individuals or travel agencies to do so. Applicants have to write an authorized letter enclosed with copies of photo IDs when they entrust other individuals or travel agencies to submit the applications. 

3. HK permanent residents and residents should present their original Hong Kong ID Cards and also provide copies of the aforementioned ID cards in addition to their original passports and required documents when applying for visas.

4. In cases where invitation letters by companies and other relevant entities in mainland China are required, copies of the business licenses and registration forms of the aforementioned companies and entities should also be provided. In cases where invitation letters by individuals in mainland China are required, copies of the aforementioned individuals' ID cards or passports should also be provided.

5. Applicants who do not enjoy HK resident status should apply for visas with the Chinese Embassies or Consulates General in their countries of citizenship or residence. 

6. Applicants who were born in China (include Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) and do not enjoy HK resident status are qualified for applying visas with this office. But they should present Chinese visas issued to them by the Chinese Embassies or Consulates General in their countries of citizenship or residence when submitting applications.

7. HK residents and permanent residents who are of Chinese ancestry and hold foreign passports are required to make "Declaration of Change of Nationality" with the Immigration Department of the Government of Hong Kong SAR when applying for visas for the first time.  

8. Applicants under 18 should submit the following documents when applying for visas for the first time: Birth certificates (original and copy), Parents'  IDs (passports and ID cards, original and copy).

9. Applicants under 18 who were born in mainland China and one or both of whose parents hold Chinese citizenship should apply for their first Chinese visas at countries of their citizenship or residence.

10. Applicants under 18 who are of Chinese ancestry but were born overseas are qualified to apply for visas with this office under extraordinary and unique circumstances which are only defined by this office. The aforementioned applicants should provide the following documents: Birth certificates (original and copy), Parents' photo IDs (passports or ID cards, original and copy). In cases where one or both parents of the applicants hold Chinese citizenship, the permanent residence certificates of the parent/parents (original and copy) at the time of the applicants' birth should also be provided.

11. If necessary, the consular officer may require the applicant to provide other proof documents or supplementary materials, or require an interview with the applicant.

12. Visa category, validity, number of entries and duration of each stay are issued at the discretion of the consular officers whose decisions are based strictly on relevant laws and regulations of PRC, and also on the identity and purpose of trip of applicants. The consular officers are entitled to refuse any applications, as well as to change and/or revoke an issued visa without disclosure of the reason.

13. The aforementioned rules are for your reference only. Final interpretation of those rules lies with the Consular Department of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in Hong Kong SAR.
