Office Spokesperson Addresses Questions from the Press
2016/12/03

Question: Chris Patten, former governor of Hong Kong, recently made some comments on the developments in Hong Kong during his visit to the city. What is your take on that?

Spokesperson: Over the past two decades since Hong Kong's return, the Chinese Central Government has been firmly committed to the implementation of "one country, two systems", "Hong Kong people administrating Hong Kong" and a high degree of autonomy, and supported Hong Kong in developing democracy in accordance with the Basic Law in a gradual and orderly way. Hong Kong residents enjoy unprecedented democratic rights and freedoms as prescribed by the law. Hong Kong has maintained its prosperity and stability. These facts are hardly disputable.

Hong Kong's affairs are entirely China's domestic affairs. We are firmly against any unwarranted remarks on or interference in Hong Kong's affairs by any foreign government, institution or individual under whatever name.
