Office Spokesperson Addresses Questions from the Press
2019/03/28

Question: on 27 March, the British Foreign Office issued the latest Sixth Monthly Report on Hong Kong, commenting on Hong Kong affairs. What is your take?

Spokesperson: Since Hong Kong's return to the motherland, the principles of "one country, two systems", "Hong Kong people administrating Hong Kong" and a high degree of autonomy have been faithfully implemented. The "one country, two systems" has achieved universally-recognized success in its implementation in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong residents are entitled to extensive rights and freedoms that are unprecedented. These are the facts that can hardly be denied by anyone without biases.

The British side's so-called report pays no attention to facts, confounding white with black. The report deliberately confuses the legitimate actions taken by the Central Government and the SAR Government in cracking down on "Hong Kong independence" forces, safeguarding national sovereignty and security and upholding the rule of law in Hong Kong, with freedoms of speech, the press and association. We urge the British side to face up to the reality that Hong Kong has returned to the motherland and abide by the basic norms governing international relations, stop publishing the so-called reports, stop making unwarranted comments on Hong Kong affairs and refrain from interfering in China's domestic affairs.
