Office Spokesperson Addresses Questions from the Press
2017/02/27

Question: The British Foreign Office just released the latest Six-Monthly Report on Hong Kong. What is China's comment on it?

Spokesperson: Since Hong Kong's return to the motherland, the Chinese Central Government has fully implemented the principle of "one country, two systems", "Hong Kong people administrating Hong Kong" and a high degree of autonomy, and acted in strict accordance with the Constitution and the Basic Law. The success of the "one country, two systems" has won worldwide recognition. Hong Kong has maintained prosperity and stability, and its residents have enjoyed unprecedented rights and freedoms. The Central Government's firm determination to implement "one country, two systems" will remain unchanged.

I wish to reaffirm that Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region of China. Hong Kong's affairs are entirely China's domestic affair, which no foreign country has any right to interfere in. There is no such thing as a "responsibility" to Hong Kong claimed by Britain. We request the British side to exercise caution in words and deeds, and stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs.
