Office Spokesperson Addresses Questions from the Press
2017/04/27

Question: The European Union issued the 2016 Annual Report on Hong Kong on 26 April. What is your comment on it?

Spokesperson: Over the past 20 years since Hong Kong’s return to the motherland, the Chinese Central Government has acted in strict accordance with the Constitution and the Basic Law and has been firmly committed to the pioneering cause of “one country, two systems”. It has given full support to the efforts of the SAR Government to develop economy, improve people’s livelihood, promote democracy and uphold social harmony. Hong Kong has maintained its overall prosperity and stability. Remarkable success has been achieved in the implementation of the “one country, two systems” principle.

Hong Kong is a special administrative region of China. The European Union made irresponsible comments on Hong Kong’s affairs, which are entirely China’s domestic affair, in its report. We are gravely concerned about and firmly opposed to such move.
