Office Spokesperson Addresses Questions from the Press
2017/05/04

Question: The US Congressional-Executive Commission on China recently held a hearing on Hong Kong, claiming that the “one country, two systems” is under erosion. What is your take on it?

Spokesperson: Over the past two decades since Hong Kong’s return, the principle of “one country, two systems”, "Hong Kong people administrating Hong Kong” and a high degree of autonomy has been faithfully implemented. Hong Kong has maintained its prosperity and stability. The residents of Hong Kong enjoy full rights and freedoms in accordance with the law. This is the fact widely recognized by anyone without bias. The determination of the Chinese Central Government to implement the “one country, two systems” in a full and faithful manner in accordance with the Constitution and the Basic Law remains firm and will not change.

Hong Kong is a special administrative region of China. Hong Kong affairs are entirely China’s domestic affair. China is against the interference in Hong Kong affairs by any foreign institution through whatever means. The related hearing deliberately confounded right with wrong out of ulterior motives. It grossly meddled in Hong Kong affairs and openly interfered in China’s domestic affairs. The Chinese side is gravely concerned about and firmly opposed to such move.
