Commissioner's Office Organizes Guangdong Tour

From 21 to 23 June 2017, Deputy Commissioner Tong Xiaoling led a consular delegation in a trip to Guangdong province. Consuls-general of 12 countries to Hong Kong, such as Argentina, Indonesia, South Africa and Belgium, joined the delegation. They met with Chinese officials including Guangdong Deputy Governor He Zhongyou, Shenzhen Deputy Mayor Ai Xuefeng and Zhuhai Deputy Mayor Lu Xiaofeng. They also attended a briefing by Guangdong Reform and Development Commission on the Belt and Road development.

During the visit, the delegation toured the three sections of the Guangdong Free Trade Zone (FTZ), namely Qianhai, Nansha and Hengqin. They attended briefings on the planning of the three areas and their coordination with the initiatives of Belt and Road and the Greater Bay Area. The delegation also visited the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub, Makeblock Shenzhen, GAC Group and HK-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

The consuls-general generally believed that the visit helped them to have a better understanding of Guangdong’s economy and the FTZ, as well as the Belt and Road and the Greater Bay Area initiatives, which would facilitate their work in Hong Kong.
