On December 6th 2006, Dr. Alice Cheng donated HK$400,000 to MFA-assisted impoverished areas in a donation ceremony held in the Commissioner's Office. Commissioner Lu accepted a check of the donated amount from Dr. Cheng on behalf of the Poverty Relief Office of the MFA.

   This is Dr Cheng's 9th donation to the MFA poverty relief efforts, bringing accumulative donation to nearly 3 million RMB. The money all goes to finance education, water supply and health care infrastructure projects in 2 MFA-assisted poverty-stricken counties (Jin'ping and Ma'li'po counties in Yunnan province).

   Dr. Cheng is a member of the 10th session of the China's People's Political Consultative Conference, Vice Chairman of the Guangcai Program, Executive Manager of the Daqing Oil Company limited and President of the Yung Shing Enterprise Company. Having been keen to promote social well-being and a generous philanthropist, she is highly commended for her financial contribution to primary school, sports and public health projects in mainland China.

   In their meeting before the ceremony, Commissioner Lu spoke highly of Dr. Cheng's unfailing support to China's impoverished areas and said that her strong commitment to MFA poverty relief efforts is appreciated and respected. Lu added that Dr. Cheng and her family are always welcome to visit these two counties and see first hand how her financed projects are going.
