Commissioner Lü Xinhua met with President Bharrat Jagdeo of Guyana and hosted a luncheon in the president’s honor at the Commissioner’s Office on 2 October 2008. Deputy Commissioner Yang Zigang, Head of the Privatization Unit of Guyana Mr. Winston Brassington and the ADC to the President Major Ronald Hercules were also at the event.

The commissioner expressed his warm welcome to the president and appreciation to Guyana for cherishing its relations with China. Mr. Lü also briefed his guests on the developments in the Hong Kong SAR since its return to the motherland in 1997.

President Jagdeo, for his part, thanked the commissioner for his hospitality, praised the mainland and the SAR for their development achievements and exchanged views with the commissioner on the current global financial turmoil and other issues of shared interest.

President Jagdeo paid the private visit to Hong Kong after his trip in the Mainland.
