Commissioner Lü Xinhua received a group of US journalists at the Commissioner's Office on 25 September. The 9-membered group of senior journalists from mainstream US media was on a trip to China organized by the Better Hong Kong Foundation and the East-West Center in Hawaii. Commissioner Lü spoke about the Commissioner's Office and the work it has done over the past 11 years supporting Hong Kong's international exchanges and servicing the communities of Hong Kong. He then answered questions from the journalists about the interactions between the SAR and Central governments in international organizations like APEC and WTO, the latest developments in Hong Kong's economy, the SAR's role in China's overall diplomacy, its comparative advantages over Shanghai and other mainland cities, its economic integration with the mainland as well as how foreign journalists in Hong Kong can go to the mainland for news coverage. The journalists have visited Beijing and Yunnan, where they exchanged views on China's political, economic and environmental protection issues with leading officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Environmental Protection, China Banking Regulatory Commission and Beijing Organizing Committee for the 29th Olympic Games as well as Yunnan Province. They also talked to faculties of Renmin University and management personnel of Sohu.com and visited Olympic venues in Beijing. |
