
Commissioner Lü Xinhua and Mme. Zhang Jingya hosted a dinner at the Commissioner's Office on 8 July for foreign CGs and their spouses who came to Hong Kong in the first half of 2009. The new CGs of Argentina, Chile, Romania, Portugal, the Philippines, Kazakhstan and Myanmar, their spouses, and Doyen of the Consular Corps Peruvian CG were invited to the banquet, which Deputy Commissioner Gao Yuchen also attended.
Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner's Office, the commissioner welcomed the new CGs to their new post in Hong Kong, and reaffirmed his Office's commitment to facilitating their mission. He also gave a brief introduction to Hong Kong's latest economic and social developments as well as the violent crimes that took place on July 7 in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China. The CGs thanked Mr. Lü for his introduction, which helped them better appreciate the situation in Hong Kong SAR and the July 5 violent crimes in Urumqi.
The CGs saw the photo exhibition on China's 60 years of diplomatic achievements before the dinner.
