On behalf of the Office for Poverty Alleviation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Commissioner Lü Xinhua accepted HK$400,000 of donation from the Alice Cheng Foundation on 17 September 2009. Deputy Commissioner Gao Yuchen participated in the donation ceremony of the 11th donation from Dr. Cheng, whose cumulative donation to the Foreign Ministry has reached HK$3.7 million, all of which is used for education, drinking water for man and animal, and health facilities in Jinping and Malipo Counties in Yunnan Province.

Dr. Cheng, a widely acclaimed philanthropist, has donated large amounts to Project Hope primary schools, sports and health undertakings and poverty alleviation programs in the Mainland. Commissioner Lü expressed appreciation and admiration to Dr. Cheng for her philanthropic donations to poor Mainland areas, thanked her for the great support to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in poverty relief, and invited her and her family to visit Jinping and Malipo Counties at their convenience.
