Spring Gala Reception 2010 was held at the Commissioner's Office on February 23 2010. Over 500 guests including well-known figures in various communities of the society like CPPCC Vice Chairman Dong Jianhua, HKSAR Chief Executive Donald Tsang, Minister Peng Qinghua and Vice Minister Li Gang of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR, Commander Zhang Shibo and Commissar Liu Liangkai of the PLA Garrison in Hong Kong, as well as major officials from the HKSAR Government, members of the Executive Council and Legislative Council, and Hong Kong deputies to the NPC and CPPCC attended the event.

In his remarks made at the reception, Commissioner Lü Xinhua described the past year as an unusual and inspiring one. Faced with the grave impact from the international financial crisis, the Central Government took decisive measures that succeeded in making the Chinese economy one of the first to recover in the world and maintaining a high growth rate, thus contributing to stability and development of the global economy. The HKSAR Government also took proper measures that resulted in the economy stabilizing and growing. It played an important role in the reform of the international financial system.

A toast to a bright future

The commissioner also reviewed the work on the diplomatic front concerning Hong Kong over the past year. He then pledged doubled efforts on the part of the Commissioner's Office to stay in close touch, communicate and coordinate with the HKSAR Government, collaborate with the latter in its administration according to law, serve the Hong Kong people, and continue to contribute to "one country, two systems" and long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong.
