There has never been any so-called "secret agreement"
2010-10-21

A journalist has asked for comments on reports by Hong Kong media quoting Japanese media that claims that, according to sources from the Japanese Government, there was secret agreement on the Diaoyu Island issue with Chinese leaders during the Junichiro Koizumi administration, i.e. the Japanese side does not detain Chinese nationals landing on the Diaoyu Islands, and the Chinese side promises to stop ships carrying "Protect Diaoyu Islands" activists from approaching the Islands.

Spokesman Song Ronghua of the Commissioner's Office points out that the so-called "secret agreement" is totally non-existent. Such claims are purely lies and slanders with ulterior motives that misguide public opinion and further damage political mutual trust between China and Japan. The Japanese side must take any consequence that may arise from this. The Diaoyu Island and adjacent islands have been an integral part of the Chinese territory since ancient times. The Chinese Government has all along been explicit and firm on its position of safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity.
