Spokesperson of the Commissioner's Office Addresses Questions from the Press
2016/05/10

Q: The EU issued the 2015 Annual Report on Hong Kong on 25 April, claiming that the Basic Law and the “one country, two systems” are under the “most serious challenge” since Hong Kong’s return. What’s your comment on this?

Spokesperson: Since Hong Kong’s return, the principle of “one country, two systems” and the Basic Law have been effectively implemented. Remarkable achievements have been made in various undertakings in Hong Kong. The HK residents’ lawful rights and freedoms are fully protected. All this has been widely recognized by the international community. In disregard of the facts, the EU side has made unfair comments on Hong Kong affairs, and unwarranted remarks on China’s internal affairs. The Chinese side wants to express our grave concern about and firm opposition to it. I wish to reaffirm that Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region of China. Hong Kong affairs are entirely China’s internal affair. We are firmly against the interference into China’s internal affairs by any foreign government, institution or individual in whatever way.
