On November 21, 2008, Assistant Minister Wu Hongbo met with the delegation headed by Judith Macgregor, Director of Migration, Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom for the first anniversary of the Detailed Rules for the Implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Facilitation of Legitimate Travel and Cooperation to Combat Illegal Immigration. Wu said that bilateral cooperation in immigration affairs is an important part of China-UK relations. In the current global economic situation, promoting personnel and trade exchanges appears to be particularly important. At the same time, the Chinese Government is firmly opposed to illegal immigration and will crack down on criminal activities related to illegal immigration. China is willing to work closely with all countries in this area. Macgregor thanked Wu for taking time to meet with the UK delegation. He said that UK is willing to work together with China to normalize and expand bilateral personnel exchanges and promote the comprehensive development of China-UK relations. |
