|Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin Receives Media Interview in Durban|
On December 7 and 8, 2011, Liu Zhenmin, Assistant Foreign Minister and first deputy head of the Chinese delegation to the Durban Climate Change Conference, received the interview of CCTV English Channel and Southern Weekly. He elaborated China's position on the climate change negotiations and the Durban Conference.
Liu stressed that the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and Kyoto Protocol provide the main basis for the international community to cope with climate change. The second commitment period of Kyoto Protocol is critical to the fate of the Protocol itself and more importantly to the issue of trust among the negotiating countries. China hopes that developed countries such as the EU can continue to play a leading role in showing flexibility towards the second commitment period of the Protocol.
