Commissioner Meets Australian CG
2017/08/30

On 24 August 2017, Commissioner Xie Feng met with Ms. Michaela Rachel Browning, Consul General of Australia to Hong Kong. The two sides exchanged views on China-Australia relations and business cooperation and cultural exchanges between Hong Kong and Australia.

Commissioner Xie said in the meeting that President Xi Jinping clearly expressed support to Hong Kong's participation in the development of the Belt and Road and the Guangdong-HK-Macao Greater Bay Area during his recent inspection tour to the city. Efforts should be made to seize the opportunities and blaze new trails, and carry out win-win cooperation between the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and the countries along the Belt and Road.

CG Browning noted that Australia and Hong Kong have kept close business and cultural ties. Hong Kong, the 12th largest trading partner of Australia, serves as the gateway for Australian companies to explore markets in East Asia. As many as 100 thousand Australian citizens are living in Hong Kong. Australia is confident about the continued success of "one country, two systems" and the rule of law in Hong Kong, and looks forward to an early conclusion of the free trade agreement with Hong Kong.
