2017/09/06

On 5 September 2017, Commissioner Xie Feng met with Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle, former President of Chile, and his delegation, who came to Hong Kong for the third "Chile Week". The two sides exchanged views on China-Chile relations and business cooperation between Hong Kong and Chile.

Commissioner Xie noted during the meeting that China is the largest trading partner, largest export market and largest source of import for Chile, while Chile being the fourth largest trading partner of Hong Kong in Latin America. We are very pleased to see the opening of "Chile Week" for the first time in Hong Kong and wish the event full success. In future, the Commissioner's Office is ready to strengthen communication with the Chilean side to promote cooperation and achieve synergy between the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Chile under the Belt and Road Initiative and in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

President Eduardo Frei noted that the Chile and China enjoy long-term friendship and smooth business cooperation. The "Chile Week" in China will not only promote the bilateral ties and attract more Chinese investment, but also demonstrate the overall national image of Chile to the Chinese market. The "Chile Week", being held for the first time in Hong Kong, is expected to play a positive role in deepening business ties between Chile and China, as well as between Chile and Hong Kong.
